CHEYENNE MOUNTAIN ZOO’S EARTHFEST 2009 IS A PARTY FOR THE PLANET!
EarthFest 2009 Celebration on Sunday, July 12 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
June 3, 2009 – When was the last time you got to see how a solar oven works? Or learned how easy a personal compost pile is to establish? Or made an animal mask or some kids’ toys out of recycled material? Have you recently had the opportunity to meet and talk to some of the great folks from Colorado Springs Utilities or from the myriad of other regional conservation organizations? Have you ever seen a conservation-friendly puppet show? Never, you say? Well, you can do this and more at the Zoo’s EarthFest 2009 Celebration on Sunday, July 12 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Everyday is Earth Day at Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, but this annual “green” event at the Zoo heightens awareness of what we can all do to protect our natural resources, surroundings and earth’s creatures.
The hub of activity is focused at the Zoo’s Lodge at Moose Lake. At the lodge, little ones can indulge their creative sides making animal masks, creating ecology-inspired chalk drawings and fashioning newspaper plant pots. While the kids are busy, adults can browse a wide variety of conservation information booths and talk to representatives from regional conservation organizations. And kids of all ages are invited to participate in the offbeat “Walk Like an Animal” parade, which departs the Lodge at Moose Lake at 2:45 p.m. for a whimsical weaving around Zoo grounds.
Not only will visitors share a day chock full of fun activities, but they will learn a lot about recycling, restoring and reusing. Booths will be set up offering information and ideas on how you can improve your life and that of your planet. But we’re not talking about stuffy, read-the-pamphlet kind of information. We’re talking about jumping, singing, planting, take-it-home-and-grow-it, happy living kind of information. The kind of info you won’t mind stuffing in your head and keeping forever. Together we can make every day Earth Day!
