Elevation - Getting Around the Zoo
The Zoo's elevation rises from 6,800 feet at the front admission gate to nearly 7,000 feet above sea level at the Zoo’s highest points of Asian Highlands and Rocky Mountain Wild. With elevations of this magnitude, it’s important for guests to keep hydrated and not overdo it, especially if you are visiting from locales much lower in altitude than Cheyenne Mountain Zoo. Take your time while you experience an unforgettable adventure highlighted by the breathtaking mountain scenery of America's mountain zoo!
Guests can also use the Zoo’s Tram system to get around Zoo grounds. Please find Tram details under the Zoo Transportation expandable of this page, and check the Tram’s seasonal operational schedule when you arrive.
Zoo Transportation
Zoo Tram
Our tram will assist you and your guests with getting up and down the mountain. The Tram travels throughout the zoo to transport visitors from one area to the next. It comes to each stop approximately every 15 minutes. The tram is also wheelchair and stroller accessible.
The tram is up and running in the late spring through Labor Day, weather permitting.
Please check the tram’s seasonal operational schedule when you arrive, or you may call ahead 719-633-9925, or e-mail to find out if the tram will be running.
Cost: $1 per person, unlimited rides for the day
