Animals & Keepers Show their Stuff.
Don't miss some great opportunities to learn more about the animals and what we do at the Zoo. Some animal happenings occur during the summer months only. To ensure that the activity you're interested in will happen the day of your visit, call 719.633.9925, ext. 111, or e-mail info@cmzoo.org. Also, remember to check the Animal Happenings signs in each area during your visit for the most up to date information.

Receive Animal Show Text Messages!
Receive the day’s animal shows right on your phone via text message. Simply text “Zoo + day of the week” to 839-863. For example, “Zoomonday” or “Zoosaturday.” It’s a quick and easy way to make sure you don’t miss a single animal show! Standard text message rates apply.

Orangutan Demonstrations
When: Daily, 11:00 a.m. (Available if the orangutans are unable to do their outside "Orangutans are Awesome" natural behavior show)
Where: Primate World
What: If the weather won’t allow the orangutans to do their natural behavior show outside, stop by to see them staying sharp with a variety of enrichment items or a painting demonstration.
Snow Leopard Enrichment Demonstration
When: Fridays, 11:00 a.m.
Where: Snow Leopard Exhibit
What: Our Animal Care Staff works hard to keep our cats active and thinking. Come watch the leopards interact with our staff or some fun enrichment items.

Amur Tiger Enrichment Demonstration

Where: Amur Tiger Exhibit

Hippo Training Demonstration and Keeper Talk
When: Daily, 2:00 p.m.
Where: Aquatics building, at hippos
What: Are hippos smart? You be the judge. Come see our Animal Care Staff train and practice various interactive exercises with hippos.
Animal Feeding Shows

Grizzly Bear Enrichment Feeding and Demo
When: Daily, 11:30 a.m.
Where: Rocky Mountain Wild, at grizzly bear viewing
What: Come get an up close view of our Grizzly Bears. Stop by to check out what new behaviors the boys are learning. On Tuesdays and Thursdays see them playing with enrichment made to bring out the best in our bears.

Monkey Pavilion Training Demo
When: Daily, 11:30 a.m.
Where: Monkey Pavilion (Animal Care Staff may be indoors or outdoors)
What: Come watch as our Animal Care Staff teach the resident primates some cool new behaviors. From swinging to leaping, you will be amazed at what these primates can do.
African Bird Feeding and Keeper Talk
When: Daily, 1:00 p.m.
Where: African Rift Valley, in the giraffe Statue entry plaza
What: Learn more about some of our African bird species as you watch them eat their lunch. You may even catch a sneak peek at some of our Animal Care Staff working on new behaviors.
Moose Feeding and Keeper Talk
When: Sunday - Tuesday, 1:30 p.m. (weather permitting)
Where: Rocky Mountain Wild, at moose
What: Let us introduce you to “Tahoma”, our resident moose. Join our Animal Care Staff to learn about the largest member of the deer family.
Otter Feeding
When: Wednesday - Saturday, 1:30 p.m
Where: Rocky Mountain Wild, at otters
What: Our aquatic acrobats will amaze you as they look for an underwater mid-afternoon snack. Animal Care Staff will be on hand to share just how outstanding otters are.
Wolf Feeding and Keeper Talk
When: Daily, 2:30 p.m. (weather permitting)
Where: Rocky Mountain Wild, at Wolf Woods
What: Catch a glimpse of the elusive Mexican grey wolf. This afternoon talk is a great time to see one of our most secretive residents.

Mountain Lion Enrichment Feeding and Talk
When: Daily, 3:30 p.m. (weather permitting)
Where: Rocky Mountain Wild, at mountain lions
What: Let our Animal Care Staff introduce you to Colorado’s big cat. Through interacting with enrichment, from bones to papier-mâché, we hope you will gain an appreciation for how well mountain lions are adapted to their mountain home.
Natural Behavior Animal Shows

The colder weather is coming! Please note the updated schedule of our Natural Behavior Shows. Winter is a great time for our animals to learn new behaviors with their Animal Care Staff members. As the shows wrap-up for winter be sure to look at our training demonstration schedule and stop by to see if you can get a sneak peek at what cool new behaviors our animals are practicing.
Loft Show
When: Daily, 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.
Where: Rocky Mountain Wild, Te Loft - west side of The Lodge at Moose Lake
Message: How does a Raven build her nest? Can an opossum really balance on something as thin as a rope? Are Barn Owls really silent when they fly? Stop by the Loft and see if you can find the answers to these questions and more.

Orangutans are Awesome!
When: Daily, 11:00 a.m. (weather permitting, if show is canceled due to weather see the information under Animal Demos)
Where: Primate World, at orangutans
Message: Have you ever thought about why orangutans have such huge hands? Come see just how "handy" they are as our orangutans share how some of their cool adaptations help them live in the jungle. Find out how you can help make sure orangutans are around for years to come by learning about palm oil and how it affects their habitat. We think that by the end of the show you'll agree that orangutans are awesome!

Message: Did you know that birds play a beneficial role in the environments all over the world? Meet six of our African bird species and see fun natural behaviors while learning how they help out around our planet. You may even learn some differences you can make right in your own backyard.

Treetop Acrobats

Where: African Rift Valley, Colobus Monkey Exhibit, next to the view tower and elevator

Message: Colobus monkeys are a unique and amazing primate. Come watch as our Colobus troop shows off some of their amazing tree-top acrobatic skills.

Guest Feeding & Up-Close Experiences
No need to make reservations for these unique feeding experiences at Cheyenne Mountain Zoo. Get up close with long-time favorites and some new additions on your next visit.
New! Chicken Feeding Experience
Location: between Aquatics and Primate World
Join in on one of the hottest urban farming trends – raising chickens! New this year, we’ve added a coop behind Aquatics with some of the rarest and most exotic chicken varieties, including silver penciled wyandottes, silver leghorns, and cochins. Stop by between 10:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. daily to meet the flock. If you have an extra cluck (buck, that is) and you aren’t chicken, you can even feed them!
Location: African Rift Valley
It’s a Cheyenne Mountain Zoo favorite 365 days a year! Hand-feed our 20 giraffe, the largest reticulated giraffe herd of any zoo in the world, for just $2.Reticulated what? We’re talking about the type of sub-species of our herd. The scientific name, Giraffa camelopardalis reticulata, means camel-leopard-like one who walks swiftly. If you’re a Cheyenne Mountain Zoo member, be sure to take advantage of the special members-only discounted frequent feeding card. Learn more about giraffe feeding.
Budgie Buddies Feeding Experience
Location: Australia
More fun than you can shake a seed stick at! Take a summer stroll through our indoor aviary surrounded by more than 100 free-flight Australian birds - budgies, finches, cockatiels, rosellas, and princess parrots. Purchase a seed stick for $1, and a bird or two may even land on your arm or shoulder. The aviary is open daily 10am-4pm, unless otherwise noted. Learn more about Budgie Buddies.
Pony Rides
Location: Entrance to Rocky Mountain Wild
Hey cowpokes! Hop up in the saddle and take Old Paint for a ride at Cheyenne Mountain Zoo. We have a mess of trusty steeds in all sizes and colors for the young'uns. Each pony and rider is individually led by a wrangler around a circular trail, nestled in Rocky Mountain Wild, just south of The Lodge at Moose Lake. It's an old west adventure they'll never forget.
