Something New at the Zoo? You Can "Bank on It"!
Be a part of Cheyenne Mountain Zoo’s biggest project ever! You can get involved by participating in “Bank On It”, which will support the new Encounter Africa exhibit. This new exhibit will open in late 2012 and feature the zoo’s elephant herd, African lion pride and meerkats. Encounter Africa will also bring black rhinos back to Colorado Springs.
How can you help? Here’s how you can get involved with the "Bank On It” community campaign. It is fun, easy and will ensure that you are a part of the zoo for years to come. There will also be a sign next to the art installation piece in Encounter Africa with all the names of “artists” who submit pictures of their decorated banks.
Step 1: Get Yours!
Visit any one of 17 U.S. Bank branches in Southern Colorado to get your very own elephant bank with just a $50 donation. You can also find the banks at the Zoo’s front gate (open daily 9am-4pm) or online here (shipping & handling fees apply).
Step 2: Get the Glue Gun….and SAY “CHEESE!”
Channel you inner Picasso! The bank is yours to keep, so make it your own by decorating it however you choose. Snap a picture of your completed masterpiece* and email it to us at bankonit@cmzoo.org (by April 1, 2012) to be included in a fantastic and one-of-a-kind art installation inside the new Encounter Africa exhibit.
*Bank on it! email photo submissions must include:
- Photograph: A clean picture of only the bank (neutral background is preferred).
- Please send the photo as an attachment.
- Image type and size: .jpeg format of at least 300x300 pixels...or higher.
- The “artist’s” first and last name (to be listed on a sign next to the art installation piece), age, mailing address and daytime phone number of the person who decorated the bank in the message of your email.
Step 3: Fill ‘er Up!
Make an elephant-size impact by dropping off what you have saved in your elephant bank. Bank donations can be accepted at any open window at the Zoo’s front gate, which is open every day from 9am to 4pm. Be sure to include your first and last name, address, and phone number with your donation. Stay tuned for special “Bank On It!” donation days, where there will be zoo volunteers available to accept your bank donations near the admissions plaza at the zoo.
The best part….prizes!
We will be awarding special zoo prizes (imagine a behind-the-scenes elephant encounter) in the following categories:
“Best Decorated Bank”
“Most Money Raised”
Prizes will be awarded in the following age ranges:
Ages 4 & under
Ages 5 – 8
Ages 9 – 12
Ages 13 – 18
To be eligible to win for either category, your photo and/or donation must be received by April 1, 2012.
