Keeper Assistant-Browse Acquisition: This position will consist of 2-3 days per week of browse acquisition. Tree branches are browse. Obtaining and delivering browse to a variety of animal areas in the Zoo is a critical component to many animals Environmental Enhancements Programs. The ability to lift potentially heavy tree branches (branch weights can range from 5 pounds to 30 pounds) repetitively during the workday is necessary. Total weight of branch material per day can reach 2000 pounds.
Keeper Assistant-Animal Areas: This position is responsible for providing the highest quality care and husbandry of the animals to which they are assigned. Animal Keeper Assistants support the Zoo in our mission “to be a leader in conservation, captive breeding and animal care; to connect people with wildlife and wild places through experiences that inspire action.” Promotes professional working relationships with both internal and external customers. This position is non-supervisory in nature, and was created to assist keepers with cleaning, diet prep, and shows, so that animal keepers can focus on other goals (primarily training and enrichment). Congratulations on your decision to pursue a career as a Zoo Veterinary Technician! Cheyenne Mountain Zoo is an excellent place to begin your journey. During the 6 month program, you will gain valuable hands-on experience in zoo wildlife care, working closely with experienced veterinary technicians, zoo veterinarians and zoo keeper staff. After the program, you will be better prepared to be competitive for other zoo veterinary technician positions. Please keep in mind that you may need to move around to find the right job.
